Toothbrush Tips
When it comes to choosing a toothbrush, there are dozens and dozens of choices ranging from supermarket basics to pricey electronics. Greenhill provides a new toothbrush at each appointment, but you’ll need to replace it between visits, so choose wisely!
1. Select the right size
Your toothbrush should fit comfortably in your mouth and be able to reach all teeth, including the backs of molars. The handle should be thin enough to hold at different angles and make it easy to rinse and dry the brush head when done.
2. Go soft
Choose a soft-bristled brush to remove plaque and debris from your teeth and along the gum line gently. Firm brushes and overly aggressive brushing doesn’t mean cleaner teeth.
3. Power up
Electric toothbrushes make oral care easy and fun, encouraging you to brush regularly so choose one if the idea appeals to you but know that regular toothbrushes work just as well for cleaning.
4. Stay fresh
You should replace your toothbrush at the first signs of wear, at least every three months. A worn toothbrush, with splayed bristles, can actually damage gum tissue. It is also important to change toothbrushes after you’ve had a cold or infection, to avoid reinfection.
Keep that just-cleaned feeling going for months with proper care at home. If your brushing routine suddenly becomes painful or you notice blood on your brush often, contact our office for a consultation, as these can be signs of developing problems.
