Invisalign Q & A

What is the Invisalign treatment process?

Invisalign provides all of the benefits of traditional wire-and-bracket braces but in a much less noticeable manner. The treatment begins by gathering impressions of your teeth and using state-of-the-art computer mapping to design your series of Invisalign aligners.

Your Invisalign treatment process, which is personalized to you, involves wearing clear aligners for at least 20-22 hours per day, taking them out just to eat, drink, floss, and brush.

Every one to two weeks, you swap to a new set of clear Invisalign aligners. Each time you do this, your teeth continue to get pushed into proper alignment. By the end of your Invisalign treatment plan, your teeth will be perfectly straight.

Is Invisalign right for me?

Your dentist at K Street Dental & Orthodontic Group examines your bite to determine if Invisalign is right for you. Because Invisalign technology has advanced dramatically over the years, Invisalign may be right for you if you have:

  • Severely crooked teeth
  • Gaps or large spaces
  • Over, under, or crossbite

Whether you have minor or complex misalignment issues, you may benefit from a customized Invisalign treatment plan from K Street Dental & Orthodontic Group.

For more complex cases, you might need SmartForce® attachments. These tiny tooth-colored bumps help hold your Invisalign aligners in place to enhance the benefits of your aligners. Your dentist adds or removes these attachments as needed throughout your entire Invisalign treatment process.

How long does Invisalign take?

As a specially trained Invisalign provider, your dentist can let you know how long your Invisalign treatment plan should take during your consultation. On average, an entire Invisalign treatment takes about 12 months, although you may certainly start noticing an improvement in just a few weeks. Your specific Invisalign plan could be longer or shorter.

To ensure your teeth continue to stay in their new positions as gum and bone tissue build up around them, your dentist gets you fitted for clear retainers. It’s important to wear these retainers as recommended to prevent further teeth shifting.
